Pea is an annual climbing herbaceous plant. The stem, not very branched, can reach 2m in length. It is hollow, with a cylindrical section, and climbs by clinging to the supports by means of the tendrils of the leaves. It is characterized by a high number of knots, or sweaters. Among the most precocious varieties and cultivars, the first flowers can appear from the fourth node, while in the later ones they can appear from the 25th upwards. The leaves have at their base two large wrappings, rounded and serrated at the base. The stipules sometimes have red spots (presence of anthocyanins).
