Lettuce (Multifoglia Rossa e Verde)

Lettuce is an angiosperm, dicotyledonous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is often and erroneously called a salad, being often part of or main ingredient of the homonymous dish. It is a two-year species, the first year forms a rosette, the second the floral scape. The root system is composed of short taproot and superficial, thin and fleshy roots. The basal leaves are of various shapes, ovate or elongated, and green or reddish in color; they form a more or less compact “head” or “head”. The floral scape, issued the second year, 100-150 cm tall, bears corimbiform ramifications ending with a flower head. The flowers are ligulate and yellow, the seeds are made up of a brown and white achene, separated from the pappus.
