Fava beans

The stem has a quadrangular section, hollow, branched at the base, with an indeterminate growth, high from 70 to 140 cm. The leaves are packed, glaucous, pinnate-composed, in turn made up of 2-6 elliptical leaflets. The flowers are collected in short racemes that develop at the axil of the leaves starting from the 7th node. Each raceme bears 1 to 6 pentameri flowers, with wavy flag, of white color streaked with black and white or violet wings with black spot. The fruit is an elongated, cylindrical or flattened legume, end to point, erect or pendulous, glabrous or pubescent which contains from 2 to 10 seeds with evident hymone, initially green and darker in color (from hazelnut to brown) when ripe.
